Saddle Fusion 101

Saddle or sidewall fusion is utilized in joining a saddle to a pipe side by heating the pipe’s outer surface and the fitting surface. The process makes use of a device to ensure proper regulation of heating, alignment, and force. This process can be carried out while the production of a “hot tap” is pressurized when regulations and the owner of the pipeline allow. The fitting surfaces of the pipe and saddle are heated until they reach a sufficient temperature, which then leads to the removal of the heating tool and the weld being formed. After a cooling cycle, the process is complete.

Along with saddle fusion, we have solutions for socket fusion, including the McElroy Socket Tooling. It provides an ideal method for fittings installation and supports the fusing of pipe from ½” CTS to 4″ IPS (16mm to 125mm). These tools comply with ASTM pipes F1056, ISO 8085-1 and ISO 4437 standards. The Socket Tooling Kits come in a variety of sizes to suit your unique needs and provide all the required tooling components so you don’t need to order each item separately. Each kit has equipment capable of conveniently fitting in a specially designed toolbox and tray so everything remains in one place.
