The Largest Ever HDPE Pipe Has Arrived

The fascinating news is coming out of Esquimalt, a town located in Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The town will have the distinction of boasting the largest pressure pipe to ever be used in the entire continent of North America. The pipe will serve as a connection to the town’s new wastewater treatment plant.

The gargantuan pipe, made of high-density polyethylene and with an outer diameter of just over seven feet, will act as the wastewater outfall prior to its discharge into Victoria Harbor. The pipe was designed for the extrusion of products as small as 65 inches or as large as 128 inches in diameter and it measures just over a mile in length. Butt fusion was used for joining the pipe portions together, also making the pipe the largest to be butt welded.

HDPE pipes are corrosion resistant and deliver reliability and a strong length of service. The pipes also provide flexibility to encourage installation which saves time and labor and it is capable of withstanding seismic events.
