Common HDPE Myths

As a lightweight, flexible, cost-effective, and corrosion-resistant solution, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe is a much sought after option for a number of applications including municipal and industrial. It continues to gain favor over other piping solutions such as steel and iron. When it comes to mechanically joining them, however, there are still myths attached to HDPE pipe.

For starters, there is a misconception involving the performance of mechanical versus fused pipe when buried. In many cases, mechanical pipe is designed with the specific intention of being buried which means it is ready to handle the challenges involved with such an application.

Does cutting a groove into the pipe reduce its effectiveness and, therefore, create a weakness? This is another misconception that is untrue.

We encourage you to take the time and learn more about the robust capabilities of HDPE pipe and what it can and cannot do, as well as how it applies to whatever scenario you intend to use it in. If you have questions, our team will be happy to help.
